When I got up to go home about a half hour, it was dead.
Did you have your headphones in it? I left them plugged into the jack; I wonder if that causes it to do something that drains its power.
I did some searches at the first few iPhone forum sites Google brought up, and I read complaints in general about the battery life, but nothing like this. :-/
Hope it's nothing permanent, though.
I am bummed.
I need to find out how to effectively report this.
I did notice that I had bluetooth on, but I dont think that was causing the problem. Could it be an application getting in a loop? Maybe like Safari or email...I know if you let he camera that will drain the battery real quick! Anyway, hope we can track down the problem.
Has anyone come up with a fix or any sort of solution to this problem other than the reboot everynight?
Step 1 - Request
Product received by repair center (31-Oct-2007)
Step 2 - Service
Product Replaced (31-Oct-2007)
Must be something really wrong and not just our imagination.
Now I'm pissed that I have to buy a new screen protector.
As well, I am going to give the charging with an old iPod charger a go.
Something is very wrong as this thing won't stay charged AT ALL.
Grr.
Apple did confirm that it is a software problem.
So I recommend all junkies like myself not to open up the case. From my experience, If you do that and walk into the apple store, apple will not take the phone back, regardless if you want to replace it or not.
So i bought another iPhone this morning. works ok, has 1.1.1 on it...I cannot update it to 1.1.2 yet. it wont let me.
I plan on fixing the original iPhone at a later date.
I have the same problem too, I come to work with a full charged phone and for no somereason I end up with a dead phone by the lunch in the noon. My phone even gets warm sometimes when this actually happens. SOmetimes I shut it down and restart it and that saves the loss, I guess its the way the programs keep running in the memory. Even though we close the program, it looks like its not really closed rather it keeps eating up the power in the phone, just my thoughts.
You try to restart your phone and post back if you see any difference.
Since I did the update on my Iphone
Version 1.1.2 (3B48b)
Firmware 04.02.13_G
The battery last way longer.
I used it on the train to work today and I haven't used it since....yet I just checked the battery and it keeps draining even though i have it in sleep mode!
this really stinks! i did a reboot and see if that helps.
I have the same problem ( first my iphone dosen't show a battery sharge full) Now , i try to sharge my iphone but i couldn't , it seems it dosen't work . I try with mcbook and adapter but nothing happen:(
is there any body who can help me .
Thanks
any ideas....i need some help.
They offered me to exchange it with one that genius has but its not from the box, they say its brand new but it doesnt have a box. I didnt like the idea so I rather wait for them to get their next shipment. I am really disappointed from the life of this battery, otherwise I am in love with this phone and glad to have this site to share ideas with you all.
My phone burn my hand on Friday across from a customer. I drop the phone. I call Apple and the tell they are sending a phone to use while mine is in repair. I open the box and they overnight a paper click :-( I call them back and the only way that I have to get my phone repair is pay $29.99 or share the phone with somebody in my family...I am so upset with this I am not sure what I will do ...I am disappointed in this service! I guest forget about spend $$$$ in the mac I was planing to buy to my kids!
The problem occurs even when the phone is fully charged, so it's not a battery drain issue.
Typical scenario is that I'll use the phone, put it aside or in my pocket (without hitting power button to make it sleep); when I retrieve it, say, 30 mins later, the screen is blank (as should be normal); however, when I hit the "home" button to wake it, no response. At this point, one of the following three things is required to wake the phone
1. Hold down the power button at upper right for ~2-5s ... about 50% of the time this will wake the phone (although I don't think it's waking, it appears to be powering up as the apple logo comes up and it takes ~30s for the phone to be useable...so somehow the phone has shut itself off?!?)
2. If that doesn't work, I'll then hold down the power & home buttons simultaneously ... about 30% of the time, this causes the phone to come up (again, a "boot" as above, not wake)
3. If that still doesn't work, I have to plug in the power adapter, which causes the apple logo to immediately come up (without my having pressed the power button, mind you) and the phone boots up and becomes usable. Note, though, that in this case the battery does not show depleted, it's typically at 30% or greater.
Okay, I bought a 16gb iphone as soon as it was released.
First, the speaker was broken (whoever called me would hear their own voice repeat back to them right after they spoke)!
I took it to the Genius Bar, they made a call and I was on my way with a new phone. Great.
Now, the reception is horrible, whereas my roomate's iphone gets FULL STRENGTH!!! Also, my battery is nearly half-Down by the evening with very light use, whereas his is still full!
So, I've set up another Genius bar appointment for tomorrow, so I'll let you all know how it goes...
So I had my Genius Bar appointment this morning. I told him about the weak signal strength, poor battery and random shuffling of music.
'Let's swap it out', he said.
A minute later he came back and informed me that they didn't have any in stock:
'It's strange, I had 4 left an hour ago'
This means that A LOT of 16gb iPhones are having problems and are being returned/exchanged. Wow!
So I set up an appointment in the next town to hopefully swap my bad phone out. I drove over the hill and waited in the store for my name to be called. I informed the Genius about my phone and he went to go see if they had any in stock. My heart was racing.
He came back and told me that they had ONE left! Thank god.
I set up my new iphone and was on my way, praying I'd never have to exchange my phone again!
Wall charger, USB charger, iTunes restore ... it's just a little heating brick now. I can "charge it" and use it as a heating pad for an hour.
Software issue? Meh, feels like a short to me.
I started to notice a message popup each time I was on a call:
"Edge data blah blah while on a voice call"
This means that somehow my phone was using edge constantly - even in standby mode which was draining the battery.
So how did I fix it?
I went into General Settings - at the bottom push reset - and select all settings.
You do loose your favorite numbers - but thats a small price to pay for your battery - just add your favorite numbers again.
So far so goos - let me know if it helps.
Well, that night I recharged my phone, after charging all night, and taking MUCH longer to charge than it should have, it looked fully charged in the morning. After being on standby all day it was ONCE AGAIN at below 10%! I went online and googled "Dropped my iphone battery problems" and found this board. I tried restarting my phone, powering it down, resetting ALL general settings, even a phone restore. Then I recharged my phone overnight. This time it seemed to charge as it should, 4hrs total, 2 hours to 80% and the other 2 hours to 100%. Well when I left today at about 11:00AM the charge was full, then later today (about 2:30pm-ish) my phone is listing a usage time of 1hr 9min, and a standby of 50min, with a battery charge of 20%!!! This coupled with the fact that my phone was STILL GETTING WARM anytime it wasn't in standby mode. So I called 1-800-MY-APPLE and made an appointment to see one of the experts at the local store for tommorow at 3:00pm. I'll let you know how it goes, I'm hoping they will just hook me up with a new phone. I don't feel like waiting 2+weeks for a repair job that may or may not take. It seems ridiculous that a 3ft drop with virtually NO damage aside from a few tiny nicks in the back plate would compromise the iphone's battery power as thus...
i turned of wifi and ask to join network options and turned it off and put if on charge for 35 min... the charge bar went to 50% and it has remained there for the past 3 hours although i used it to test any difference by watching videos and talking on the phone.
the good news is that it is not a hardware issue and it is temporary. apple is working on this BUG, as i read on different websites and soon they'll take care of it with their next software update.
moreover, many ppl's iphones just went back to norm after a week or so.
so dont be tooooo worried.
cheers
to let you all know and help reduce some stress this method worked for me, now it has been 9 hours and the battery still looks 100% for me.
turn of wifi and ask to join network options as well as the phone and put it for a good charge ( over night for me) and most likely you'll be okay, i haven't tested which is the main problem. wifi or the network but its one of these two, perhaps both.
I have been charging with the block and it takes forever for it to charge and gets really warm. I just got done reading all the post on this blog and have plugged my iPhone into my computer with an old USB ipod charger. It has been plugged in for about 20 minutes now and seems to bee charing and not warm at all. Hope this works.
Also started having error on the screen when the phone heat up repair is needed you cannor make or recieve phone calls....
Any body is experiencing the same problems solutions?
thanks
ShaF
I hope there's nothing fried inside. I hope I can find someone to replace the battery.
Many thanks
Dave
But I lose all my contacts that way so how do I back up my iphone
i had my battery problem,and..no wi-fi, no bluetooth after i updated it to 2.1,
2.1 sux!!!!
FYI - I've have my iPhone for about 6 weeks, and only 3 days ago started having problems (after the update).
I shut my iPhone down by pushing the top button and the bottom button at the same time - which actually shuts the phone down. Then I charged it overnight and it was fine the next day. I think that makes sense to do after each update, just like on your computer when it asks you to restart after an update.
I am so happy my iPhone is back!
